Filters remove sand, silt and chlorine, but they don’t kill bacteria. The Jordan 55W UV Water Sterilizer adds that final layer of protection. As water flows through the stainless steel chamber, it passes a germicidal UV lamp that exposes suspended micro-organisms to ultraviolet light. No chemicals are added, and water leaving the unit is ready to use straight away, with no further contact time needed.

It’s a simple, chemical-free way to add peace of mind to borehole, tank and municipal water at home, on the farm or in a small business.

How It Works

• Water enters the sterilizer and flows through the space between the quartz sleeve and the chamber wall.
• Micro-organisms in the water are exposed to the UV light from the germicidal lamp.
• Water leaving the sterilizer is instantly ready for use.

The UV dose depends on flow: the slower the water moves through the chamber, the longer it is exposed.

Where to Install It

• Install the sterilizer after all other water equipment, such as filters, softeners, pumps and pressure tanks, so treated water isn’t re-contaminated by these units.
• Fit it as close to the point of use as possible.
• It is designed for visually clear water, so a sediment and carbon filter in front of it, such as our 3 Stage 20″ Big Blue Whole House Water Filtration System, is the ideal setup.
• Use metal fittings and at least 10 inches (about 25 cm) of copper pipe on the outlet, to handle heat expansion and UV exposure.
• Install in a dry spot with room to remove the lamp, and have the electrical connection done by a qualified electrician.

It is not intended for water with obvious contamination, such as raw sewage, or for turning wastewater into drinking water.
